MAINTENANCE WORKER

The Maintenance Worker is responsible for maintaining multiple venues including various parks and landings throughout the County.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides excellent customer service to patrons and works as a team member with fellow employees in the department.
  • Maintains all equipment in a functional condition including routine and preventative maintenance for all machinery, equipment, and any supplies.
  • Performs routine care of assigned grounds including but not limited to trash removal, basic landscaping maintenance, ball field maintenance, marking and dragging fields, repairs to landings and other general maintenance needs.
  • Maintains all ground areas including parks, trees, property lines, playgrounds, landings, fences, parking lots, bulkheads, slips, docks, finger piers, etc.  Includes routine inspections and repairs.
  • Makes minor repairs to tools and equipment used in general facility, grounds, and public landing maintenance.
  • Performs routine maintenance at pool facility during summer season, including landscaping maintenance, pool furniture and fixture maintenance and other items, as necessary.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High school or GED
  • One year experience in general maintenance
  • Valid Maryland driver’s license
  • Knowledge of methods, practices, materials and tools used in general park maintenance and care of grounds a plus

Seasonal Positions

Summer Camp Counselors- Part-time/Seasonal

Talbot County Department of Parks and Recreation announces openings for the Summer Camp Program from June 17 to August 16, 2024. Camp counselors will be responsible for supervising various ages of campers while interacting in, leading and managing recreational activities. Perfect opportunity for teachers, childcare providers, college students, or older high school students!

  1. Plans and leads activities such as arts, crafts, sports, games, camping, and hobbies.
  2. Enforces camp rules and regulations and ensures safety in the recreational facilities.
  3. Performs first aid following prescribed procedures and contacts emergency medical personnel when required by the situation.
  4. Demonstrates use of recreational equipment and teaches participants the principles, techniques, and safety procedures for each activity.
  5. Greets new arrivals and introduces them to other campers; explains camp and facility rules.
  6. Reports camper complaints to leadership and works to resolve issues.
  7. Performs other related duties as required.
  8. Consistent 8 hour shifts, Monday to Friday, No Weekends or Evenings!

Required Skills/Abilities:

  1. Enthusiastic and positive attitude.
  2. Excellent communication skills.
  3. Ability to learn and enforce the camps safety and operating rules.
  4. Must attend staff meetings and orientation during the summer season.

Education and Experience:

  1. Must be at least 16 years old, 18 years old or older is preferred.
  2. High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  3. Previous experience working with children preferred.
  4. Must pass all reference checks and background screenings, including fingerprinting and CPS checks.
  5. CPR, AED, and First Aid Training certifications or able to obtain.

Physical Requirements:

  1. Must be able to swim and pass a swim test.
  2. Able to participate in games, sports, and physical activities including water-based games and activities.
  3. Able to maintain attention and high level of energy or excitement for extended periods of time.
  4. Must be able to spend majority the of time outdoors and tolerate a variety of weather conditions.

Pool Desk Attendants- Part-time/Seasonal

  • Talbot County Department of Parks and Recreation announces openings for Pool Desk Attendants for summer 2024 at the George Murphy and Bay Hundred Community Pools. The position is part time and seasonal from Memorial Day to Labor Day 2024.
  • Job requirements:
    1. Must be 15 years of age or older
    2. Possess customer service and communication skills
    3. Cash handling experience
    4. Comfortable to work new technology
    5. Ability to work outside for long hours
    6. Available to work on weekends and some evenings.
