Me & My Little One 

Come skate with your little one! For skaters under 10 years old. Helmets and walkers are available on a first come first serve basis. Me & My Little One is $5.00 per child which includes skate rental. Accompanying adults are free.

Ice Skating Programs & Information

Jamie Webb

The Jamie Webb Ice Hockey program is for children ages 4-12 years old that are able to skate. If your child cannot skate, we recommend that he or she take a class in our Learn-to-Skate program before participating in Jamie Webb. You may request hockey skates for your child during the Learn-to-Skate lesson. Participants new to the  Jamie Webb program are recommend to start in the Juniors class, regardless of age.

The Jamie Webb class will focus on basic skating and balance and focus on edge control, starting, stopping, turning, etc. All of the equipment is provided and to be returned at the end of the season. Players keep the hockey stick and jersey.

Spring Session

    • Seniors (Ages 8-12): 7:30-8:20am
    • Juniors/Beginners (Ages 4-8): 8:25-9:15am

 

Summer Session:

  • Dates: Wednesdays- June 19, 26, July 3, 10, 17, 24 (Deadline: June 5th)
  • Times: 5:30-6:30pm (Beginners and Seniors)

Learn to Skate

Open to skaters ages 3 years old and up! Sessions consist of 6 weeks of 30-minute group lessons, one day a week. Lessons offered Monday evenings, Saturday mornings, or Wednesdays. Practice ice available for registered skaters only before or after lesson. Skate Rental and Helmets included with registration. Bike, skating, or hockey helmets are required for Tots and highly recommended for all beginner skaters. No make-up classes or prorating for missed classes.

Never taken lessons with us before? Skaters ages 3-5 will register for the Tots class and work their way through the different Tot levels until they turn 6 years old. Participants ages 6 and up will register for the Intro class.

Homeschool Learn to Skate

Homeschool Learn-to-Skate Lessons

The Homeschool Learn-to-Skate Program offers classes for all ice skating skill levels, starting at age three. Included in your lesson there may be practice time available before or after your lesson.

Lessons are 30-minutes each week. Participants will receive an email with the class time. Class times will be adjusted to accommodate number of skaters in each level. 

  • Fee: $85 ($15 late registration fee)
  • When: Wednesdays. Participants will be placed in classes based on level and age between 10:30am-12:30pm. Time of lessons will be determined based on the number of skaters.

Power Hockey Skate

The Power Hockey Drills curriculum is designed to strengthen the fundamentals of hockey skating. Skaters will increase their power and quickness, learn critical transitions, and become more agile on the ice. Proper skating techniques are the primary focus of the lessons. All elements will be taught without a stick or puck. Skaters will learn the necessary fundamentals of power skating to be successful in game situations. Skaters should have completed Pre-Alpha 2 or be proficient in skating forward and backwards prior to enrolling in this class. Each session will consist of 6 classes of 30-minute lessons. Skates and helmets will be provided, if needed. 

  • Fee: $85 per session
  • When: Mondays- 6:00-6:30pm
  • Spring Session: Mondays, March 11-April 22 (No class on April 1)
  • Spring Saturday Session: Saturdays (11:00-11:30am), April 6-May 11
  • Summer Session: Mondays, July 8th-August 12th (Deadline: Monday, July 1)

Specialty Ice Skating Classes

SHOWTIME ICE SKATING

Showtime is a thrilling group performance class that spans six weeks. It’s designed to help skaters aged 6 to adult (enrolled in Learn to Skate levels Pre-Alpha 1 and up) develop various skills such as synchronized skating and freestyle elements. Skaters will have the opportunity to learn a group routine that they will perform in the Talbot Figure Skating Team Winter or Spring Exhibition. SYNCHRO ICE SKATING

Learn about synchronized skating, the team discipline of figure skating! Form wheels, circles, lines, blocks, and intersections connected to other skaters. Advanced and more experienced synchro skaters will also work on more challenging formations, elaborate step sequences, lifts, and specialty skills. Class is available for levels Pre Alpha 2 and up, ages 6 and up. Adult skaters welcome, too!

  • Fee: $75 per session 
  • When: Tuesdays, 5:15-5:45pm
  • Spring Session: April 2nd-May 14th (No class on April 16)
  • Summer Session: July 9th-August 13th

RHYTHMIC ICE SKATING

Similar to rhythmic gymnastics, Rhythmic Ice Skating will use hoops, ribbons, and balls on the ice. During this 3-week class, skaters will learn new basic skills of skating with props and learn performances. Class is available for youth levels Pre-Alpha 2 and up, ages 6 and up. We welcome adult skaters to join as well!

  • Fee: $45 per session 
  • When: Tuesdays, 5:15-5:45pm
  • Summer Session: June 4th-18th

INTRO TO ICE DANCING

Like other forms of figure skating, Ice Dancing features a male and female skating in unison or a solo skater, but instead of performing jump and spin elements, they complete difficult dance patterns, step sequences and maneuvers. With roots in ballroom dancing skaters showcase an exceptional interpretation of music and precise steps. In this class, skaters will learn some of the fundamental steps of pattern dances along with the proper timing. Whether skating for fun, testing your pattern dances, or ice dancing competition is in your future, this class will give you an opportunity to try out ice dancing!

  • Fee: $75 per session 
  • When: Tuesdays, 5:45-6:15pm
  • Spring Session: April 2nd-May 14th (No class on April 16)
  • Summer Session: July 9th-August 13th

TOTSICLES

Totsicles is a “Me & My Little One” ice skating class offering instruction/supervision for tots to get used to and comfortable on the ice. Parents will learn how to hold child on the ice and proper ice safety when skating with a little one. Parents are required to be on the ice with their child. Each session is 6 weeks of 30 minute instruction. Skate rental and helmets are included.

  • When: Wednesdays after Me & My Little One Skate
  • Time: 10:00-10:30am
  • Summer Session: July 10th-August 14th

Off-Ice Conditioning Class for Figure Skaters

This 45 minute, off-ice total body conditioning class aims to improve a skaters core strength & stability, endurance, athletic conditioning, agility and balance to enhance their on-ice performance. Fun, motivating and challenging! Use weights, bands, plyometric and body weight exercises to get a full body training.

Participants will need to bring their own exercise mat, water, and set of light weights (optional).

Power & Edges Skate

Power & Edges skating in particular helps to develop more explosive acceleration, powerful strides, agility and balance on the ice. Power & Edges ice skating techniques focus on both speed and strength training, along with practicing proper skating techniques, including body positioning and balancing drills. Because a beginning level of edge mastery and understanding is required, this class is for skaters in Freestyle Levels, or by request.

Adult Ice Skating Lessons

It’s never too late to learn the basic skills of ice skating! Learn balance, forward moving, stops, swizzles, and more. What a great way to exercise and have fun at the same time! Lessons include six classes of 30-minute lessons. Practice time is available before each lesson. Skate Rental is included and helmets are highly recommended.

Adult Learn to Play Hockey Lessons

The program is open to adults 18+ who have never played hockey but want to learn! The class will combine on-ice skills sessions with instructional games. Participants will learn the fundamental skills of ice hockey including passing, shooting, skating with a puck, game play, and more. 

Participants must be able to effortlessly skate. Those who need to improve in skating skills are encouraged to join our Adult Ice Skating lessons.

Participants will need a helmet, elbow pads, hockey gloves, hockey pants, and hockey stick. Hockey skates can be borrowed and returned each lesson from skate rental. 

Fee: $85 per session
Dates: Wednesdays, June 19th-July 24th
Time: 6:45-7:45pm
Who: Ages 18 & up

Adult Summer Hockey League

  • Fee: $2000 per team
    • $500 deposit due by May 28th. Remaining payment due by June 17th.

  • All players MUST be 18 years or older
  • Team Entry ONLY- A/B League & C League
  • No Contact Recreational League

Adult G-League Hockey

Come out on Sunday evenings this summer for our G-League Adult Ice Hockey league. Open to ages 18 to 82! Pre-registration required and teams will be selected each evening. This is a recreational non-contact league.

  • When: Sundays, June 16th-August 18th
  • Time: 5:00-6:30pm

Freestyle Sessions

Freestyle Sessions are designed to provide an opportunity for skaters to practice their skills. The following Skating Etiquette Guidelines need to be followed to participate in these sessions. Prior registration is not required.

  • Fee: $15 per session
  • Punch Cards: $150 for 10 sessions (11th session FREE!)
    • Available starting mid-September for purchase during regular office hours only (Monday-Friday, 8am-4:30pm)

SKATING ETIQUETTE GUIDELINE

  • Failure to pay will result in you being removed from the ice.
  • Skaters must be proficient in forwards and backwards skating, maneuvering around others, changing directions and stopping quickly.
  • Skaters must make sure they steer clear of other skaters when others or they are practicing jumps, spirals, camel spins, etc.
  • Hockey skates, sitting on barrier, sitting on ice, personal headsets, unsportsmanlike behavior, and gathering into groups are not permitted. 
  • Private instructors need to be approved by TCPR at 410-770-8050
  • Individuals who participate in freestyle are required to sign in and pay the freestyle fee in full. Payment is required even if taking a private lesson

Stick & Puck

Stick & Puck

You can enjoy time to practice skating, puck handling, and shooting! Helmet, gloves, skates, and sticks are required. Adults are welcome on the ice to practice with your child as well.

Fee: $10 per skater (each child and each adult)

Skate Sharpening

SCHEDULE:

$10 per pair of skates

No drop-offs, MUST wait for your skates to be sharpened.

Recreation Program Information

We make the registration process easy by offering various ways to register for our programs! We offer online registration, registration by mail, registration by fax, registration by e-mail, or you can simply stop by to see us. If you choose to complete a registration form by fax or e-mail we will contact you for payment once we receive the registration form. Registration forms will be accepted Monday through Friday from 8 AM until 4:30 PM.

If Talbot County Parks and Recreation cancels a program for any reason, a full refund will be given. If you withdraw three business days prior to the start of the program, you will receive a full refund. No refund will be given if you cancel after the program or event has taken place. No cash refunds will be given. Refunds take 14-21 days to be processed or a credit will be added to your account.
