SOS Learn to Swim Free Lessons!
Children, ages 18 months through 18 years, & adults can register for swim lessons at either the George Murphy or Bay Hundred Community Pool this summer with NO FEE! Through the generosity of its donors, SOS Sink or Swim, will cover all lesson costs for each swimmer.
“To ensure that every child on the Eastern Shore has the ability to swim and knows how to be safe in the water.”
SOS Sink or Swim is docked at the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
Sessions are Mondays-Thursdays. Class sizes are limited and each child is limited to 2 SOS swim lesson.
To register, you must complete the entire registration form and return the form by the deadline for each session. Class sizes are limited and registrations are taken on a first come, first serve basis!

Learn to Swim Sessions

Me and My Little One
This class is offered to children 18 months to 2 years old. It will teach the basics of bubble blowing, supported front and back float, locomotion along the wall, assisted front and back kick, introduction to alternating arms, and basic water and sun safety skills. Games will be introduced to make learning new skills an enjoyable and fun experience for the child. The swim instructor will work with the child as well as the guardian in learning new skills. Adults must accompany the child in the water. Children who are not toilet trained must wear a swim diaper.

Water Exploration Level I
This class is offered for the beginning swimmer ages 3 and up. It emphasizes comfort in the water, bobbing, front and back float, front and back glide with kick, introduction to alternating arms and basic water and sun safety skills.
- Who: Ages 3+
- Time: GMCP 8:00-8:30AM or 10:00-10:30AM | BHCP 11:00-11:30AM or 6:00-6:30PM
Fundamental Water Skills Level II
This class is offered to swimmers ages 3 and up who have passed level one and should be able to be fully submerged for up to 3 seconds. It emphasizes comfort in the water, beginning back stroke, beginning forward crawl, introduction to rhythmic breathing, front and back floating, and progress from supported to unsupported swimming.
- Who: Ages 5+
- Time: GMCP 8:30-9:00AM or 10:30-11:00AM | BHCP 11:00-11:30AM or 6:30-7:00PM
Stroke Development Level III
This class is offered to swimmers ages 5 and up who have passed level two or are able to submerged and retrieve an object in chest deep water. They also must be able to jump into chest deep water unassisted, and be able to swim without a bubble or flotation device. The child will learn to coordinate front and back crawls with rhythmic breathing, elementary diving skills, treading water, introduction to breast stroke and water and sun safety skills.

- Time: GMCP 11:00-11:30AM | BHCP 11:30AM-12:00PM or 7:00-7:30PM
Stroke & Turn Level IV
This class is offered to swimmers ages 5 and up who have passed level three and can easily swim laps unassisted. This is advanced training for swimmers to perfect all swim strokes. It will help to improve endurance, fundamentals and speed.

Junior Lifeguard Training
Youth ages 10-15 years wanting to learn what is expected of a lifeguard can join us for a two week training session to help prepare them for the lifeguard course. The goal of this aquatics program is to help youth who may not have considered lifeguarding as part of their future. All registrants are required to pass the deep end swim test. This is a one week session of four 1-hour classes. Limited spaces are available so please register early!

Listed below are Talbot County Community Pool Rules. All patrons are required to comply with pool rules and regulations whether being enforced by a lifeguard, pool manager, attendant or other pool employee. Failure to comply with rules and/or staff requests will result in the loss of certain or all pool privileges.Please do not run inside the pool area or dive in less than 7 ft. of water.
- Unruly behavior, fraternizing with pool staff, climbing or playing on staff equipment, foul language, excessive horseplay and life threatening actions are prohibited.
- Smoking and consumption of alcoholic beverages are prohibited.
- Glass containers are prohibited inside pool area.
- Pets are prohibited in the pool area.
- Eating, drinking and/or chewing gum is prohibited while swimming in the pool.
- Proper swimming attire is to be worn by all patrons using the pool. Cut-off shorts, basketball shorts, tank tops, t-shirts, sports bras and all types of undergarments are prohibited.
- Swim diapers are required to be worn by all children who are not toilet trained. (ex: Little Swimmers by Huggies)
- Pool Passes are non-transferable; passes used by unauthorized persons are subject to revocation.
- Children (under 12 years old) must be accompanied by an adult (18 or older).
- Any person wishing to swim in the deep end must pass a swim test given by an on-duty lifeguard.
- All swimmers are required to shower before entering the pool.
- Persons suffering from fever, colds, inflamed eye (pink eye), nasal or ear discharge, open sores, skin diseases, diarrhea, or any other communicable disease, are by law not permitted in the pool area. The staff reserves the right to ask for documentation from a doctor before permitting such persons into the pool area.
